Filter at Rams Head Live

Third show in a week! And arguably the best. 3 bands. All really good. Got home at 1am, and already have albums from all 3 bands downloaded into my ipod for the office.

Filter played at the Rams Head Live in Baltimore. Cheap show - $20, in Baltimore, free parking, awesome venue. I got a little confused. I got there not that early and was still the 10th person in line. There was an interesting social experiment ahead of me. The group in front of me apparently had a number of friends bail on them so they had a bunch (at least 6) extra tickets. They were right up front near the box office and the bouncer. When they saw someone go to buy day-of tickets, they'd yell "Free tickets!" "What's the catch?" "Nothing, our friends bailed." "Can I give you 20 bucks?" bouncer perks up "Nah, just buy us a beer if you see us" "Thanks" But it was interesting to see how many people insisted on buying their own tickets instead of taking a free one. Whatever.

Since there weren't that many people, I figured I'd wander around for a bit before taking my balcony spot upstairs. But.the.balcony.wasn't.open. Crap. Apparently the "good" seats downstairs were bar stools at tables and they were pretty much all taken. Oops. Well, now I know for the Toad show next Friday.

I found a table in the corner by the ramp with a single bar stool, so I set up camp for the night. A black girl with blond dreads came over in a whirl and leaned the against the post by my table. She had really good energy and turned out to be great company for the show so I didn't seem so by-myself. She came to see Ours.

When Opiate for the Masses came on, I was a bit scared. Lots of scary leather and smoke (opiate? for the masses?). The drummer was a cross between Alice Cooper, Weird Al Yankovic, and a Tepanyaki chef. They ended up giving a great show. Good show, good music. Loud metal guitars. Yeah!

Ours came on next. The girl got excited when "the little guy" popped his head out on stage before the first band. He's pretty little. A cross between Curt, Menno, Adam Levine? They're playing a new (to me) venue in DC next month. I think I'll check that out. It's only $15.

Filter came on next. Great show. Not much to say, expect it was the show I expected and I'm cool with that. New backup band - who rocked LOUD! No Geno, sniff. They played for 90 minutes. Definitely glad I went.

I'm getting pretty good at this "Go to a show on a weeknight, get 4 hours sleep and go to work the next day" thing...
